If you’ve spent any time at all looking into methods of replacing your teeth, you’ve probably seen a lot of information about what dental implants are capable of. After everything that you’ve heard, you may wonder whether it’s fair to say that dental implants are the greatest method of tooth replacement that there is.

While there are plenty of options available to you, it’s true that dental implants have a lot going for them in comparison. Here’s why it may be fair to call them the premier method of tooth replacement.

Dental Implants’ Durability

Obviously, if you’re interested in investing in your smile, one of the things you’d want most is for your dental work to last as long as possible. Dentures and dental bridges will routinely last anywhere from 10 to 15 years, which is an impressive amount of time.

However, that’s nothing compared to what dental implants have to offer. It’s been demonstrated that around 95% of dental implants will remain successful at 20 years, and it’s common for them to last as long as 30. If you take care of them well, your dental implants may endure for a lifetime.

The Bite Force of Dental Implants

Arguably the biggest benefit of a tooth replacement option is a greater bite force. In an ideal case, eating once you’ve had dental work done should be pretty close to how it was when you had your natural tooth.

While both dentures and dental bridges can afford you a pretty strong bite, dental implants being connected directly to the jaw affords them much greater stability. This means a stronger, more reliable bite.

How Dental Implants Preserve Your Jaw

Once you’ve lost teeth, your body typically decides to send fewer nutrients to the jaw, causing it to shrink. Atrophy of the jaw is pretty common even after the teeth have been replaced with dentures or bridges, as neither of these do anything to stop it.

However dental implants are fused directly to the jaw, stimulating its growth. As a result, you’ll have a much stronger jaw in the long run.
